The Laboratory of Pharmacological Regulation of Cell Resistance ITEB RAS was established in 2014 within the framework of the project “Drug Discovery Targeting Mitochondrial Pores and Channels for Cancer, Heart and Liver Diseases” (agreement number Z50.31.0028 from 07.04.2014). This project is supported by the megagrant program that was created on April 9, 2010 by the executive order #220 of the Russian Government entitled “Measures to attract leading scientists to Russian institutions of higher learning, research organizations of the governmental academies of sciences, and governmental research centers of the Russian Federation”.

The Leading Scientist of this project and Head of the Laboratory is Dr. John J. Lemasters, who is a GlaxoSmithKline Distinguished Endowed Chair and Professor of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Drug Discovery & Biomedical Sciences and Director, Center for Cell Death, Injury and Regeneration at the Medical University of South Carolina.
